How the price is worked out
The calculator adds your materials to your time (hours multiplied by your hourly rate), then adds an overhead percentage for things like packaging, tools and photography. It then adds your profit margin on top. If you sell on a platform that takes fees, those are added so you still keep the price you planned.
Pricing tips for handmade crochet
Many makers undercharge because they leave out their time. Counting your own hours at a fair hourly rate is the biggest step towards a sustainable price. Wholesale is often around half of retail, which is why the calculator shows it as a starting point. Compare the result with similar handmade items in your market, and adjust if your skills or materials are different.
Frequently asked questions
What hourly rate should I use?
There is no single right answer. Many makers start with at least their local minimum wage and increase it as their skill and speed grow.
What counts as overhead?
Packaging, labels, tags, tools, photography, workshop costs and similar expenses. Ten percent is a rough starting point.
Is the wholesale price correct?
It is a rough rule of thumb, with wholesale at about half of retail. Shops and wholesalers vary, so treat it as a starting point.
