Magic ring

Make an adjustable loop, work the stated number of stitches into the loop, then pull the tail to close.

Increase and invisible decrease

Flattened seam single crochet

Flatten the opening so front and back stitches align. Insert hook through one front stitch and one back stitch at the same time, then work 1 sc through both layers.

Surface crochet tabby stripe

Hold dark orange yarn behind the finished orange fabric. Insert hook from front to back and back to front through the marked stitch line, pull up a loop, and sl st loosely across the surface. Do not tighten the fabric.

Embroidered stripe and whisker stitch

Embroidered stripe: use dark orange yarn on a yarn needle. Sew one straight stitch over the marked position and repeat over the same line 2 times for a visible stripe. Whiskers: use white embroidery or thin nylon thread, insert the needle through the muzzle side, carry the thread outward, then anchor with a tiny hidden stitch at the side of the face.
